When Ian Wetherell’s company asked people to volunteer for redundancy he leaped at the chance.

He had been working as the European technical manager for leading automotive and aerospace paint company Sherwin Williams for several years, when it merged with a larger paint firm. The new organisation was looking to streamline, and after looking at the financial package on the table, Ian decided the offer was too good to miss.

“The whole culture of the company had changed, and to be honest after over 25 years working in the technical side of the paint industry I was beginning to get a bit bored. The redundancy settlement was very generous and gave me the opportunity to think about how I wanted to spend the rest of my working life.

“But I like working with paint, so it seemed to make sense to stay within a field that I had some knowledge of, but to do something completely different with it. I began looking at automotive smart repair franchisees and Revive! was the option that appealed to me most.”

Ian was invited to a Revive! discovery day where he went through a rigorous selection process. Revive! are looking for people who want to build a business and not just be a man in a van painting cars. “I was under no illusion that Revive! was looking as hard at me as I was at them,” said Ian. “I had a very thorough telephone interview with a recruitment consultant who asked me all about my motivation, ambition and expectations. At the discovery day, I had access to all areas at head office and was impressed with the level of support they gave to franchisees. I was also pleased to see how busy the customer service team were in the middle of November, which is traditionally a very quiet period for smart repairers.

“I know that I don’t have all of the skills right now to build and grow a business, but one of the benefits of buying into a proven, successful franchise model is that Revive! will give me all of the support, training and mentoring I need to go from being a one van to a multi-van operation.”
