A Q&A with one of International Pairs Golf’s Iceland licensees.

1. Tell us a bit about yourself and what you were doing prior to buying an International Pairs License for your region?

Prior to becoming á IP licensee Kristin worked in the travel industry for thirteen years tending to insurance and related matters for Icelandair. Valdis runs a small company in the tourist industry in Iceland. She has been working for more than 10 years in banking/finance. She has spent most of her business career in marketing and public relations. Both of us have prior experience in organizing events amongst others, corporate golf tournaments

2. Why did you go down the Licensee route? And why did you choose an International Pairs License?

We are two ladies ,friends who have passion for golf. When the opportunity came along to work on our hobby it was never in doubt.

3. What were the benefits of obtaining an International Pairs License for your region?

The benefits were bringing some fresh winds into the Icelandic golf community. Nothing of this kind exists on the market. Also for us becoming a part of the international golf community was exciting.

4. How did Covid affect your International Pairs Business in your region? And how would you go about running the tournament during the pandemic?

We are fortunate that both the 2020 and 2021 Iceland International Pairs events could take place and be concluded as per schedule. We ensured that all Covid protocols were adhered to.

5. What is the most invaluable piece of advice you could give someone looking to run the International Pairs in their region?

When opportunity presents itself do not hesitate. This competition is showing huge growth and it will just be a matter of time before some-one else in your territory takes up the opportunity,

6. In your opinion, what makes a successful International Pairs Licensee?

Someone who has experience in organizing golf tournaments and has a passion for making competitions interesting and fun. Some-one with drive and passion willing to work hard to become successful.

7. Have you found anything particularly challenging?

Not yet. Perhaps the marketing of the event at the outset, but once established the event advertises itself through the players and clubs who participate.

8. What do you enjoy most about running the International Pairs in your region?

We love making a career out of the hobby we love so much as well as giving golfers in Iceland this unique opportunity to play in an international competition.

9. What are your plans for the future?

To make the qualifying competitions the most popular golf events in Iceland.
