Company Overview

Established in 2005 in Ireland, The ZipYard opened its first centre in England in 2011 and now has centres throughout mainland Britain. The highly-visible centres, branded in The ZipYard’s distinctive yellow and black corporate colours, offer a full range of clothing repair and tailoring services – including bridal and formal wear. Centres also offer a one-hour express service for zips, hems and minor repairs and in many units we offer a dry cleaning concierge service for customers.

Franchise Overview

As at February 2013 there are 12 UK centres, with a further 12 targeted for the year, and a 5-year plan to open a further 50. The ZipYard is a mixture of B2C and B2B and trade can be generated not only from the domestic market but from retail (boutiques, department stores etc.), businesses (who employ staff in uniform), schools, bridal shops and many others. The head office team have extensive experience in franchising (MD 20+years) and also run three other franchised businesses.

Training

We provide a comprehensive two-week ‘Induction Training Programme’ which covers business practice, computer systems, running a centre, marketing and promotions, staff recruitment and counter sales. Training is divided into three modules: Head Office – business systems; In Centre – learning the ropes in a current trading centre; Own-Centre – employing what you’ve learnt under the guidance of head office support staff in your own centre.

Daily Life of a Franchisee

You will be the managing director, sales person, finance controller, production co-ordinator, personnel manager and marketing manager all rolled into one! You will be dealing with customers over the counter but also building relationships with local businesses; there will be networking opportunities and you need to be regularly communicating and marketing the business. Additionally, you will be managing and motivating your staff to ensure efficiency and profitability.
