Mike Toal, franchise owner of InXpress Manchester South, recently won Gold at the World Master Athletics Championship in Perth. After years of training, Mike won the men’s over-45 800 metres title. Having competed when he was younger, Mike has returned to running, and he is currently the five times Great Britain Masters Champion. After this great achievement, Mike is now preparing for the European Masters Championships in Denmark next year.

“One of my biggest motivations for competing is that I have two children and I really want to give them some inspiration. If I can show them I can do this, then they will see that they can do anything they put their minds to. Mike believes that success in sports and in business have some similarities and that’s how he’s managed to juggle both at the same time. With two young children, he wanted to make sure he was there while they were growing up and didn’t miss out on school plays and important milestones. The business has given him all this and more and, now that his children are a little older, he can concentrate on becoming a World Champion.

“When I’m getting ready for a competition, I get out and train at least five times a week. Training for competitions and running my own business are not too dissimilar! A lot of the elements for success such as perseverance and getting out there every day match quite well. I follow a strict training plan as well as a business plan,” adds Mike.
