Cafe2U Conference09 & Franchisee Awards - "The Power of the Brand"

Cafe2U proudly held its third annual conference and Franchisee Awards on Saturday 31st January 2009.

The day was another celebration of the achievements of Cafe2U as a franchise system. Tom Acland MD proudly opened the conference with a list of some of the top achievements from 2008:

  •   Cafe2U started more than 25 new franchised operations in the last year
  •   This included three franchisees who became multi operator franchises
  •   Cafe2U is now trading in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland & The Channel Islands
  •   Ian Stewart won the BSA mobile award for Beverage Excellence the second year in a row for Cafe2U
  •   Cafe2U raised over £3000 for Macmillan via its participation in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning
  •   Cafe2U have attended twice as many events than last year with record hot drink sales of 900+ from a single van at one event!

Tom went on to explain more about the day, “It was extremely exciting to see so many new faces attending their first conference, and have joined the franchise in the last 12 months as well as all of our other franchisees.”  There were a number of guests and specialist speakers with Andy Simpkin MD of Cafe2U Australia winning the award for the guest who traveled the furthest!
“Cafe2U were fortunate that they emerged from 2008 in better condition than a lot of businesses, with a solid demand for our service, built on a solid business model of profitability and flexibility.  It has been great to hear from many franchisees that are trading at a higher level than 12 months ago, many of who have set new daily trading records, and have also booked into more events than ever.”

“The power of the Cafe2U brand continues to grow to the benefit of our franchisees. Cafe2U, the brand, is seen as an ambassador of great coffee, great standards, and as such our reputation is still growing, resulting in higher sales of coffee, hot chocolates and other café style products on a weekly basis.”

As well as an intensive day Cafe2U were also proud to host their own mini barista jam which after its excellent attendance and the coffee & flavour workshops during the conference will see this become an addition to every conference as well as a stand alone annual mid year event which will take place later in 2009.

The highlight of the Cafe2U Conference was once again the announcement of the Cafe2U franchisee awards.

Jeff won Cafe2U franchisee of the year because he utilises all of the strengths and flexibility of the business brilliantly, he understands his customers as well as the business, adapting products, marketing strategy, and sales techniques to suit different stops and different people in those stops.  Customer service is as important as profit, and Jeff understands that the two are entwined and generally look after each other.

Jeff understands the power of the Cafe2U brand and leverages it at all opportunities, whilst still being able to be perceived as a local business owner and gaining customer loyalty.  Jeff is always willing to learn and take on board new ideas from the franchisor.  Jeff also gives back to the franchise as a whole with ideas, news, updates and when appropriate constructive criticism.

Steve Mooring MD Caffe Society, Graham Lickfold Cafe2U Cheltenham & Tom Acland MD Cafe2U

The Cafe2U Barista of the Year is a very tough award to win, and there is always a ‘long’ short list for it! this year was no exception. We have a nomination process for the awards, which we then discuss, score each attribute, in conjunction with a secret criteria. Graham won because he consistently demonstrated all the attributes of the model Barista making some of the best coffee we have tasted.

The milk frothing technique is perfect and ensures the correct texture and heat, espresso pour times are always on the money, and he has the skills and confidence to put his own twist on a drink to make it an even more pleasurable experience. To top it all off this is done with a friendly smile, giving all customers the experience Cafe2U strives to achieve, whether it’s on the round or at some very busy events.”
