Staff at Kettering based promotional product and personalised clothing franchise Recognition Express, were surprised to receive an unusual order from Tresham College of Further and Higher Education, for embroidered head rests to adorn the seats of the colleges own BAC 1/11 airplane, situated within its grounds!

The airplane, donated by West Herts College, provides a real-life training scenario for students undertaking the Cabin Crew Training qualification, as part of the BTEC National Diploma in Travel & Tourism as well as being used to enrich Public Services programmes.

Hilary Philips, course tutor, said: “The Cabin Crew qualification is recognised by most airlines and some even guarantee interviews to those students who have it.

The course is very popular with students and covers all aspects of the job, including researching different airlines, health and safety procedures, first aid awareness, making announcements and the more scary side of the job like dealing with emergencies in the air.”

“To provide a truly authentic environment we have branded aspects of the aircraft with our Tresham logo, such as the head rests and safety cards and the fuselage.”

The plane has become a distinctive local landmark, especially for motorists travelling along the Barton Road where it is most visible.

Dawn Harden, from the Marketing department at Tresham said:

“We were extremely pleased with the service that we received from Recognition Express and found that they were very helpful in assisting to fulfil this unique order on time for our official unveiling in October 2010. We have worked with them for many years in creating promotional products for Tresham and have developed an excellent working relationship.”

Russell Golding, owner of Recognition Express said: “This is certainly one of our more unusual requests but we were very happy to oblige. We are ready and waiting if uniforms for the cabin crew are ever needed!”
