FASTSIGNS help Burghley House present two new exhibitions

Alan Reaveley co-owner of FASTSIGNS® in Peterborough jumped at the chance to create signs for two new exhibitions at Burghley House in Stamford, Lincolnshire, especially as he often enjoys walking his dog in the parklands belonging to the magnificent house.

“Our signs had to be in keeping with a place that has Grand Masters on the walls,” said Alan, who has been running FASTSIGNS® for nearly four years.

Burghley, the home of the Cecil family for 400 years, is one of the grandest houses of the first Elizabethan age, set in 2,000 acres of parkland. It has a huge collection of works of art, and welcomes thousands of visitors every year.

Alan’s task was to create information boards for two new exhibitions: ‘Meet the Servants’ and ‘The Travelling Earls’.

Alan continues: “The travelling earls were the 5th and 9th earls who toured Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries and bought hundreds of the most magnificent works of art, furniture and tapestries. So the information boards had to be pretty sophisticated.”

The ‘Meet the Servants’ exhibition focuses on the role of those below stairs during Queen Victoria’s  momentous State Visit to Burghley House in 1844 with her husband Prince Albert.

Jo Tinker, the Assistant House Manager at Burghley, was pleased with the outcome. “Alan Reaveley and his team from FASTSIGNS® in Peterborough provided all the boards for our new exhibition area. He worked to exceptionally quick deadlines and within a very complicated brief, whilst maintaining a can-do attitude. He was a pleasure to work with,” she said.

The ‘Meet the Servants’ exhibition and ‘The Travelling Earls’ exhibition in the recently built Treasury Gallery, are both open until October 29.
