We sat down with SmartPA Partners Aloka and Daniella to find out how their SmartPA business fits around their lives…

What were you biggest challenges as a mother and employee?

Aloka: “Childcare. Not just costs but not being able to be the main carer for my children created guilt.”

Daniella: “As an employee and mother, I always felt torn between my responsibilities for both roles and never felt I was giving either my best attention and effort.”

How does your business fit around your family?

Aloka: “Instead of my children fitting around work, I fit my work around my children now.”

Daniella: “It is pretty perfect!”

How has flexible homeworking benefited you and your family?

Aloka: “I get total work-life balance and my children think I do not work. The biggest positive impact is being able to pick my daughter up from school every day and spend the evening with her rather than being stuck on a train – especially now the homework is coming in fast and furious. I know it is being completed properly rather than relying on a childcarer who may not be that concerned…”

Daniella: “I can be a good Mum, go to all my children’s events etc and still manage to work when they are off sick. I don’t have to pay for childcare at present. I also get to work for amazing clients and see what a difference I can make to their business which is really rewarding.”

What would you say to parents/families who are considering a Partnership?

Aloka: “Do not hesitate. If you are considering going part time, then seriously think about using your free time as a SmartPA partner – it will set you up for the future! My biggest regret is not hearing about SmartPA sooner!”
