Franchising On The Run!

Last Sunday saw national home care provider, Caremark’s Franchise Manager, Patrick Thompson join a cast of thousands in the 26.2 mile marathon held in Brighton, West Sussex.

Caremark Franchise Opportunity

Patrick was part of a huge field of runners all competing for their own individual charities and finishing times. Crowds of people turned up in their droves to watch the many faces flash past along the 26.2 mile route of the race.

With 3 ½ months of hard training behind him, Patrick hoped to complete the marathon in under 4 hours.

Colleagues from Caremark’s Central Support office in Worthing, were posted in different positions along the route, hoping to catch a glimpse of their colleague as he ran onwards towards his goal. Those who did see him shouted support and encouragement as he flashed past them, racking up the miles, moving ever closer to the finish line.
Running an average 8 minutes per mile for the first 13 miles, Patrick was well placed to finish inside the 4 hour mark.

Patrick commented “Having passed the ½ marathon point in 1hr45mins I should have guessed I had gone out too quick, which is the problem of being surrounded by seasoned club runners!”

The strengthening wind and increasing chill factor made the second half very challenging. At 22 miles, with legs battling to keep the same pace in the face of the wind, Patrick pushed on. The last mile and half were the toughest but a triumphant Thompson reached the finishing line, completing the gruelling 26.2 miles in 3h 51m 40s! His cheering supporters were at the end to shout their delight at his success.

“I am just grateful that I had the fantastic support and generosity of everyone to carry me the final few miles. Thank you to everyone who, shouted, waved, teased and donated to the cause; it’s been a brilliant experience, though one I may not repeat in a hurry!” he said.

Returning to work on the following Tuesday, Patrick was greeted with more cheers from his colleagues and a celebratory glass of champagne to mark his considerable achievement.
Patrick’s efforts raised over £500 for Crohn’s & Colitis UK.
