Care workers are trained to deliver compassionate, professional, bespoke care to people in their own homes. This personalised service enables them to stay at home and enjoy independence and freedom to live

Terri joined the Barnsley care provider in 2013 as a care and support worker and says it was the best decision she ever made.

Commenting on the last 18 months Terri said: “Since working in the Care sector I have become a totally different person. When I started, I was scared of what to expect but as every day passed I became more confident and I felt that my work was becoming second nature to me. Certainly working for Caremark (Barnsley), a company who value you as a person and not just a number, is amazing.”

Terri spent the first nine months really learning her job and enjoying working with her clients. Then after a while she realised that she could do more and wanted a challenge. It so happened the office were advertising for Senior Care & Support Workers through an internal advert and she approached her Care Manager, Cathryn Fewster.

Another interview later and Terri was offered the position. Delighted, she accepted. The step up worked well for her as she was still providing care to her clients two days each week while undertaking senior duties over three days. Her change in role enabled her to grow as a person in both confidence and understanding.

Six months later, Cathryn approached Terri again to see if she would like to consider the role of Field Care Supervisor. Initially surprised to be approached for this position, she then realised how much she had learned over the last months – how she had developed as a person and a professional care worker, so she pleased to make the leap and felt excited about another new challenge.

“I knew I had big shoes to fill but with all the support around me from my colleagues and senior staff I felt more confident about taking this new step up,” said Terri.

Operations Director, Mark McKenning commented: “Terri started as a Field Care Supervisor in November last year and she is adding real value to our organisation. We are very proud of her, so well done Terri!”
