Buying a franchise business is soaring in popularity but for some people the security of buying an existing franchise is even more appealing.

Now there is a rare opportunity to purchase an established part-time theatre school in Balfron, near Stirling, Scotland, which is part of a Dragons’ Den backed franchise business that has been in operation since 2000.

Razzamataz Balfron has been established since 2012. The current owner, Mark Long, has combined being the school principal with being a professional performer and although he has loved his time at the helm, now feels it is the right time to move on.

“I have loved every minute of being a principal but feel the timing is right to move on to a new venture in my life,” says Mark. “The students really do make the job special. Watching them grow up as people and performers is incredible and to feel that you are playing a part in shaping them is the most rewarding feeling. I have also loved the responsibility and the excitement that comes with being the principal.”

Currently Razzamataz Balfron is based at Balfron High School which has its own 240 seat-theatre plus a dance studio, making it an ideal venue for a performing arts school. However, due to the size of the territory, there is also a fantastic opportunity to move Razzamataz to Stirling, which has a massive population to really expand the school and increase the classes offered.

“The sky is the limit with this school due to the geography of the territory,” says Mark. “Stirling offers a lot in terms of setting up a new school. It is easily accessible in terms of location, lots of opportunities in terms of marketing with so much going on all year round in the City and we already have good relationships with The Stirling Observer.”

The ideal candidate will have the drive and determination to build on the work that Mark has already put into the school. A performing arts or business background is not a necessary requirement because Razzamataz will provide all the training needed to make the theatre school a success if the franchisee follows the tried and tested marketing methods.

“Razzamataz is a great investment due to the network of support you have from Head Office as well as all the other franchisees,” explains Mark. “There’s also great training for the job which leaves you feeling very prepared for any of the challenges you may face as a principal. I have become a much better businessman due to working with other great principals within the franchise and also taking advantage of all the consistently brilliant training that Razzamataz Head Office provides. The biggest thing I’ve learnt is how important the job that we do is. I have watched students start at Razzamataz with no confidence go on to do great things once they leave. There is no greater job satisfaction than witnessing this first hand and I am so proud and happy that I chose to do this for the last five years of my life.”

Since appearing on BBCs Dragons’ Den, Razzamataz has gone from strength to strength, boasting high profile partnerships and almost 50 schools up and down the country. The success of many of the Razzamataz schools is largely due to being part of a franchise network as Mark explains: “Although you have the creativity to run your own business, you have the resources of a highly successful organisation right at your fingertips. The includes high level partnerships with the likes of Disneyland Paris, Eurocamp, The Stage, Her Majesty’s Theatre and the Indigo at the 02.”
