Recognition Express Inundated With Road Safety Competition Entries

Recognition Express has received over 1300 entries from school across the UK, in response to its ‘Design A Road Safety Banner’ competition, which it is running for the second year in a row, alongside the national road safety charity, Brake.

Zoe Waistell at Recognition Express Headquarters in Coalville, Leicestershire, sorts over 1300 road safety banner designs from schools across the UK

Zoe Waistell, Marketing Manager, Recognition Express, specialists in promotional products, personalised clothing and school uniforms said: “Our ‘Design a Road Safety Mug’ competition proved to be such a success last year that we decided to work with the charity again to raise awareness amongst schoolchildren and their parents.

“This year we have had nearly double the number of entries, which is fantastic!”

The competition, which was open to children aged 3-13, was based on the themes of this year’s Road Safety Week (22-28 November) – ‘Kids Say Slow Down’ and ’20 is Plenty’ with the emphasis on getting drivers to slow down outside of schools and in residential areas.

Recognition Express select 12 regional winners, each of whom receive a full-size banner depicting their design to display outside their school to encourage drivers to slow down, plus 300 high-vis draw string bags. The winning designers also receive their own, personalised Road Safety Week high-vis vest. Winners will be announced during Road Safety Week.

Nigel Toplis, managing director, Recognition Express: “We really wanted to raise awareness about the importance of traffic slowing down near schools and residential areas, and the response from local schools has been terrific.

“The standard of entries has been so high and the judging process has proved to be very difficult.”

Katie Shephard, Fundraising Manager at Brake, said: “The children have really embraced the issue of road safety through this competition, and their designs and messages are so powerful. During Road Safety Week and into the future, I’d urge all drivers to heed the advice of these children and slow down. 20’s plenty outside of schools!”
