Why did you go down the franchise route, and why did you choose your particular franchise?

I was impressed by the level of support Speedy Freight offered and by the experience of the guys at Head Office. I felt that we had the same goals in mind.

What did you do before taking up a franchise?
I’ve had a varied career over the years. Most recently I was involved in the private hire industry and I have worked in the food industry. I was in fact, the Manager of the country’s busiest fast food outlet in Marble Arch back in the 80’s. Those were hectic days!

How did you raise the finance?
Mostly from savings and family money.

What training and support did you receive initially and ongoing?
Like everyone, I spent some time at Head Office being trained in the fundaments of the business and then I had a cross section of the support staff from Head Office working in my office in Thame getting new customers into the business for a number of weeks

What is a typical day for you as a franchisee?
I come in about 8:30am and start to organise the jobs that need to be covered for the day and deal with incoming enquiries from customers. I liaise with my Sales Rep and oversee the smooth running of the service the business provides.

What challenges have you faced?
Starting any business from scratch will always involve a lot of hard work and there are many challenges to face but with the support of Head Office and the expertise of my Business Development Manager I’ve managed to overcome them all so far!

Has becoming a franchisee changed your life, if so how?
Definitely, I’m now totally in control of my business and all my efforts are for the benefit of my business and my family. I have also been able to strike a better work/life balance which is great.

What advice would you give someone thinking of buying their first franchise?
Do your due diligence and ensure this type of business will suit you. Ask as many questions as you want, no matter how trivial they may seem at first and most importantly be prepared to work hard to reap the rewards possible.

What are your plans for the future?
To continue to grow the business by working the franchise business model. I’m doing well but there is still a lot more potential to realise.

Would you do it again?
Definitely. I’m very happy with the decision I made.
