Becoming a Franchisee is a long-term commitment. Which is why it’s beneficial that the application journey is a thorough and carefully thought-out process. The application process will move at a pace which is right for you, so take your time reviewing the resources below. Attending a Franchising Event or viewing our Webcast is not a prerequisite to complete your application, but highly recommended to assist you throughout this process.

Application process – 3 to 6 months

1. Before you apply: we recommend that you attend one of our webinars/open days or watch our online webcast. This will help you to understand our Franchising model and the qualities that we are looking for when reviewing your application.

2. Make an application: Are you ready? Making an Application to become a McDonald’s Franchisee is an exciting journey to take, so please make sure you have viewed the information available at our Franchising Events to ensure you put everything we need to know about you as an eligible candidate. We look forward to receiving your Application.

3. First Interview: This is our chance to get to know each other better and discover why you think you’d be a great Franchisee and a good fit for McDonald’s. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask us a few questions too.

4. Restaurant Experience: This stage of the process will see you spend five days in a restaurant. It’s a fantastic chance for you to see how restaurants operate and start thinking about how you might run yours. You’ll get to see our operating systems and have the chance to engage with an established team.

5. Second Interview: We’ll further explore your suitability to be a Franchisee in this interview with the McDonald’s Regional VP and Head of Franchising. You’ll also be asked about your experience at the 5-day restaurant experience and have the chance to ask questions

6. Panel Interview: A panel interview will be held following a successful second interview. At this stage, you’ll have a final interview with three senior Vice Presidents from the company.

Next steps – Full-time training

7. Training: Following a successful panel interview you’re now ready to start training. You’ll be given enough time and notice before you start. We will work round your availability but the training will require your dedication and commitment. The training combines theory and practice, giving you both practical restaurant experience and classroom learning for a minimum of 26 weeks, followed by a business immersion and handover process. We have also introduced an educational bursary to help you financially during your training period.

8. The restaurant offer: During your training, you may be presented with an offer to purchase the right to run a restaurant. If you accept, we’ll start the handover process.

9. The handover: The big day. You’ll receive the keys and the day-to-day running of the restaurant is over to you – but you won’t be left to go it alone. Our Franchisee Consultant will be on hand to give you expert advice and look to support you as you transition into the restaurant.
