Recognising the importance of energy efficiency

The UK’s top supplier of corporate gifts, badges and clothing, Recognition Express, is leading the way in the franchising world when it comes to reducing its impact on the environment. They’ve achieved CarbonZero status for the second year running and become members of the Carbon Zero Federation.

Nigel Toplis

The federation is run by ‘co2balance’ which aims to diminish the effects of CO2 emissions on the environment by teaching companies and individuals how to reduce their carbon footprint. Recognition Express are the only UK franchisor to be a member of the Federation and have gained their CarbonZero status by following co2balance’s simple and cost-effective tips to reduce and offset their carbon emissions.

Recognition Express HQ in Coalville, Leicestershire, has been reducing their energy usage (and their bills) by doing things like switching computers off overnight and changing to low energy light bulbs. Recognition Express franchisees, of which there are 43 across the UK, are also being encouraged to save energy and reduce waste. Their ambition is to become carbon neutral by combining the methods recommended by co2balance. These are: increasing energy efficiency, switching to renewable energy sources, and offsetting unavoidable carbon dioxide emissions through projects run by co2balance.

These projects cover the globe and include such things as providing solar powered lamps in place of kerosene to East Africa and building a hydro-dam to provide renewable energy in China.

Managing Director Nigel Toplis said “We are proud to be members of the CarbonZero Federation and would encourage other franchises to follow our lead.  Recognition Express is a fast growing franchise. We need to be aware of the impact our growth has on the environment and take steps to make sure it is a positive one.”
