Recognition Express says ‘20 is Plenty’

…and asks children to Design a Road Safety Week Banner

Recognition Express, Europe’s leading promotional product and personalised clothing franchise, is once again promoting Road Safety Week 2010 (22-28 November) by running a Design a Road Safety Banner competition throughout schools in the UK.

The theme of this year’s Road Safety Week, which is organised by Brake, the national road safety charity, is ‘Kids Say Slow Down’ and ‘20 is Plenty’ with the emphasis on getting drivers to slow down outside of schools and in residential areas.

The competition is open to children aged 3-13 and there will be 12 regional prize winners, each of whom will receive a full-size banner depicting their design to slow down traffic near their school, plus 300 high-vis draw string bags. Each winning designer will also receive their very own, personalised Road Safety Week high-vis vest.

Schools will receive their Road Safety Week packs from Brake, with details about how to enter the competition, at the beginning of September. The deadline for entries is 22 October and the winners will be announced during Road Safety Week 22-28 November 2010.

Nigel Toplis, managing director, Recognition Express: “It is such a pleasure to be involved again in this hugely important campaign. It’s tragic to think that every day in this country 8 children are killed or seriously injured, whilst on foot or cycling, and we want to do all we can to raise awareness.”

“We had an amazing response to our Design a Mug competition last year, with over 800 entries. The standard was fabulous and made judging very difficult! I hope this year’s competition will be as popular. It’s an excellent way to engage children on the subject of road safety and keep it at the front of their minds.”

Katie Shephard, acting general manager, Brake says: “Speed is the number one killer on our roads. In communities, traffic must travel at no faster than 20mph and slower outside schools and homes, to give children a fighting chance. Road Safety Week is a fantastic opportunity to help raise awareness of this vital issue. Brake is delighted that Recognition Express have chosen to support us for the second year running and are demonstrating an ongoing commitment to helping us spread road safety messages to school children.”

There are lots of opportunities for companies and individuals to get involved in Road Safety Week. Visit www.roadsafetyweek.org for ideas and to order a free Road Safety Week pack. There’s something for everyone whether you are a mum, dad, teacher, represent a company or if road safety is a subject close to your heart.
