Recognition Express spreads Road Safety message in primary schools

Recognition Express, the UK’s leading supplier of promotional products, corporate gifts and branded clothing, is running a competition with primary schools across the UK, asking pupils to ‘Design a Road Safety Mug’ to raise awareness about road safety.

The competition is being run in partnership with Brake, the national road safety charity.  Every day on UK roads, 10 children under 19 are killed or seriously hurt on foot or bicycles, and Brake exists to help prevent these deaths, and the 3000 fatalities and 29,000 serious injuries that happen each year on UK roads.

There are 12 prizes to be won by schools across the country.  Those that are successful will receive a box of 36 mugs carrying their winning design, along with 250 high visibility slap wraps – great for keeping children safe on their way to and from school! The closing date for entries is 23 October 2009 and the winning schools will be announced during Road Safety Week (23-29 November).

Nigel Toplis, managing director of Recognition Express said: “We decided to run this competition to help schools engage with children about road safety, in a fun and interactive way.  We hope that our involvement in Road Safety Week will encourage greater participation from parents, teachers and particularly children in doing something to reduce the depressingly high number of road casualties. It’s also an opportunity for schools to win some useful merchandise to keep pupils safe.”

Many schools will already have received this year’s Road Safety Week 09 pack, but the packs can also be ordered online at www.roadsafetyweek.org/educators.  To request the Design a Road Safety Mug competition entry form schools can also contact Recognition Express directly by filling in the form below.

Katie Shephard, Fundraising Manager at Brake, says, “Brake is delighted that Recognition Express has chosen to support us.  Every year, Brake runs national Road Safety Week to engage communities in road safety.  The competition that Recognition Express is running is a great way for kids to learn more about road safety and get involved in the week.  I hope all parents and teachers encourage their children to take part.”
