When smart of York invited York primary school children to create an eye catching design for the next Mercedes-Benz smart car they were inundated with entries.

The competition set out to engage the local community – with entrants submitting imaginative and artistic designs which ranged from Union flags to under-sea worlds. The winning design, ‘The Next Eco Car’ was designed by Hannah Umpleby from Poppleton Road Primary School.

Hannah’s eco inspired design was applied to a real smart car by Signs Express (York) and is now whizzing around the streets of York for all to see. As part of the prize, the car has been handed over to Hannah’s school for them to exclusively use before being put on show at the Mercedes-Benz York showroom.
