I joined Hometyre over 11 years ago now and at a time when mainstream social media was virtually non – existent! Getting our name out there involved advertising in local papers, magazines, using a radio advert and leaflet dropping! I started my business at the start of the global recession too – so it certainly wasn't easy and It took a little longer to build up a regular customer base than we'd all planned and hoped for! Nowadays though with a dominant ecommerce website and continuous exposure on all of the social media platforms, not to mention an ever growing consumer demand for home based services, our new franchisees are up and running almost immediately. I used to think a good days work was four jobs, now I regularly undertake six to seven in a day. I'm in my 60's now and may not be the best with all things online, but just updating my sites on a regular basis keeps me at the top of Google rankings, bringing in more new customers all the time. New franchisees are taught tyre fitting the 'Hometyre' way, with an emphasis on exceptional service and this definitely keeps customers coming back time and again. Once initial training has taken place at base, the new franchisees then spend a week or two with various existing franchisees, getting hands on experience with customers. They also learn about the various other services we provide – such as lock nut removals, TPMS, Tyron bands, wheel alignment, etc. These things are also taught in theory but the hands-on experience is far better. As one of the nominated trainer/mentors, I've have had numerous trainees spend a week with me, and they have all gone on to run their areas successfully. Despite an unfortunately challenging start due to unforeseen circumstances, my business has gone from strength to strength over the years and I thoroughly enjoy the variety of engagements and challenges each day brings. The communications and assistance from HQ remains consistently strong.
