UnLtd Impact Fund awarded to Seniors Helping Seniors

Seniors Helping Seniors signed up to UnLtd Impact Fund to help provide 3,000 UK jobs for the labour market in 2020.

We are driving new standards in elderly care and local employment for people. The people we have met campaigning for better care are outstanding, and I love to be part of very positive changes.” – Sally Wilse.

Three months ago, the UnLtd impact fund signed up Seniors Helping Seniors (UK) owners Sally and Christian Wilse, to help with an ambitious and important national goal to provide 3,000 UK jobs for those distanced from the labour market in 2020. The initiative is backed by National Lottery Community Fund and Big Society Capital.

Sally and Christian help in two ways. They provide Seniors in and around Canterbury with flexible well-paid work opportunities because they still help manage the first UK pilot of Seniors Helping Seniors, and people are repeating the elderly care model in communities across the South East and East UK through franchising. Each independent business offers local, flexible, valued work which is paid above the living wage to over fifty people.

Christian Wilse says “In this day and age, who you are as a business, and having value at your heart, truly matters. People who want to start a business for themselves, are attracted to ideas that give back like this. When people need a service and when they go to work, they look for companies with strong values.

Last month the couple were invited to Portcullis House to join Minister of State for Disabled People, Health and Work, Justin Tomlinson and to celebrate the impact social entrepreneurs have on employment.

I am a huge supporter of what I’ve seen…My commitment, as the government, is to work with you and turbo-charge what you’re doing”. – Justin Tomlinson.

The event was hosted in Parliament by Alex Sobel MP, chair of the All Parliamentary Group on social enterprise. He said “I’d like to see the O2 arena full of social entrepreneurs like you”.

The win-win with Seniors Helping Seniors is, by offering valued and well paid work to people who are often distanced from work by ageism or because they need to be in control of when and where they work, they enable older people to work locally, and flexibly in well paid jobs. In so doing, the company offers outstanding same person elderly care with unparalleled results because the bond between carer and client is very easily formed when they are close in age and matched carefully.

The work at Seniors Helping Seniors is companionship and includes light housekeeping, gardening, shopping, and services that support people to live the lives they want to live.

They show a real appreciation for your efforts and the work is extremely rewarding” – SHS Carer.

Families love the fresh approach to elderly care and the company’s can-do, award-winning approach to customers.

In an ageing society the work and the services are needed more and more.
